New Semester, start of NR725B!  Dr. McGuire is facilitating the course this summer 2014.

Related to medical issues, this summer I have chosen a different venue than last semester for my volunteer service hours.
5/13/14:  I contacted the veterinarian who is the person that has agreed to work with me on my capstone project.  This veterinarian had told me when I met with her last semester that she was going to put on a “Doggie Dash” in July, 2014, and I was welcome to help.  I decided since I could not work at Milk River Activity Center this semester related to medical issues, it would be perfect to assist with this activity.  I feel this service will fit into my capstone project, as well as help our community.  The area I live in does not have an animal shelter of any kind.  A private person (C.R.) has taken this on by herself to provide the service to the community and surrounding areas.  Dr. McAllister works with CR related to animals she has taken in.  I called the Valley Veterinarian Clinic and set up a date/time to meet with Dr. McAllister.  She agreed to meet with me tomorrow after she is done at her clinic between 6pm and 7pm.
5/14/14:  Met with Dr. McAllister, DVM today at 6:45pm. We discussed my role in the “Doggie Dash,” and objectives were made and the learning contract was completed and signed.  I then started working on entrance forms, legalities needed in the forms when animals are involved, etc.  I will discuss and show my ideas and initial forms next week when I meet with Dr. McAllister again.  To note, the “Doggie Dash” was a brainstorm Dr. McAllister had a year or so ago related to the desperately needed shelter for animals.  The objectives written for this service learning volunteer work closely relates to my capstone project and helping not only the animals in the community but humans as well.  Related to the race, the race will provide the dog’s immunizations and a check-up if needed, and the “human” will receive a t-shirt as part of the $25.00 entrance fee.  The final proceeds from the race will be donated to the animal shelter for use as needed.  Dr. McAllister will notify me when she starts working on obtaining sponsors, etc.
